Karin Hindsbo Appointed Director of Tate Modern, Succeeding Francis Morris

Karin Hindsbo will assume leadership of Tate Modern in September, taking over from Francis Morris who has held the position since 2016. Hindsbo currently serves as director of The National Museum in Oslo, a role she has occupied since 2017, during which she managed its opening. Her previous appointments include directing Bergen’s Kode from 2014 to 2017, Kristiansand’s Sørlandets Kunstmuseum from 2012 to 2014, Copenhagen’s Kunsthal Aarhus from 2009 to 2011, and Den Frie Centre for Contemporary Art from 2006 to 2008. Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate, expressed enthusiasm for Hindsbo’s appointment, highlighting her leadership in successfully launching Oslo’s National Museum amid the global pandemic. Balshaw noted that Hindsbo’s sophisticated and varied approach to representing both national and transnational artistic environments aligns well with Tate Modern’s philosophy.
