KAPPS: Knowledge Architecture for Circular Manufacturing

other · 2026-05-23

A new paper on arXiv (2605.22457) introduces KAPPS, a knowledge-based Cyber-Physical Production System (CPPS) architecture designed for circular manufacturing. Unlike linear manufacturing, circular manufacturing must handle heterogeneous, uncertain used products, requiring dynamic reconfiguration and integration of human and machine knowledge. Conventional IT architectures fail to represent individual component uniqueness at runtime. Using design science, the authors derive 14 requirements from five perspectives and propose KAPPS, which employs an ontology-grounded knowledge graph as a unifying data backbone.
