Kan Yasuda's 'Islands of Silence' at Venice Biennale 2026

exhibition · 2026-03-26

The Fondation d'Entreprise Wilmotte presents Kan Yasuda – Isole del silenzio as a Collateral Event of the 61st Venice Biennale from May 9 to November 22, 2026. The exhibition transforms the foundation's space into a mineral garden where the Japanese artist's stone sculptures evoke Zen gardens and the concept of Ma (間)—the meaningful interval between objects. Ten oval and circular marble sculptures are arranged like islands in a near-dark room with a white floor, illuminated by raking light designed by Agence Wilmotte in Paris. A video titled Oltre la forma introduces the artist's carving process. Yasuda's work explores the dialogue between hardness and softness, form and void, aiming to create a meditative experience for visitors. The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–13:30 and 14:00–18:00, at Corte Nuova, Cannaregio, Venice.
