Kamyar Bineshtarigh Transfers Studio Surfaces into Art at Southern Guild
Southern Guild presents Kamyar Bineshtarigh's second solo exhibition, 'Group Show', opening in Cape Town on August 21, 2025, running until November 8. The show features mixed-media paintings created by transferring layers of paint, plaster, and markings from the studios of South African artists. Bineshtarigh's cold glue technique peels surface skins, preserving the history and energy of original sites. Works include transfers from Imiso Studios' ritual umsamo, Mary Sibande and Lawrence Lemaoana's collage cut-outs, Vusumzi Nkomo's hyper-citational walls, and Brett Charles Seiler's studio wall. The transferred surfaces become artworks only after removal, reborn as objects of study.
