Kameelah Janan Rasheed Explores Language as Transgressive Material in Artes Mundi 11 Biennial

Kameelah Janan Rasheed will showcase her work in Artes Mundi 11, the premier biennial art award in the UK, from 24 October 2025 to 1 March 2026 throughout Wales. Her diverse artistic practice delves into the poetics and politics of language, with installations displayed at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and the National Museum Cardiff. Incorporating Trinh T. Minh-ha's idea of "speaking nearby," Rasheed enriches her narratives. Her recent solo exhibitions include venues such as REDCAT, KW Institute, Art Institute of Chicago, and Kunstverein Hannover. Additionally, she established Orange Tangent Study and The Little Octopus School. Artes Mundi 11 features six artists who confront themes of displacement and political strife, with Rasheed's work closely interacting with architecture to promote innovative approaches to art and audience engagement.
