Kairos/Limitrofi: Vassiliades and Pennacchio in Nicosia

The exhibition 'Kairos/Limitrofi: solo lo spazio ricorda' at Kasteliotissa Hall in Nicosia, Cyprus, brings together Italian artist Stefania Pennacchio and Cypriot artist Vassilis Vassiliades. The show is the culmination of a three-part project curated by Jean Blanchaert that previously took place in Syracuse and Athens between 2022 and 2023. Pennacchio's work explores earth, femininity, and time through clay, metal, and stone, often referencing her Calabrian roots and ancient Greek culture. Vassiliades, who studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Perugia and is influenced by Arte Povera, creates minimalist, colorful pieces that examine space as the sole carrier of memory. His works feature traces of a cube's passage across surfaces, accompanied by objects like a candle, high-heeled shoes, an anchor, and the face of an Aphrodite statue. The exhibition is symbolic of a key moment for Cypriot culture, as 2022 saw the establishment of the country's first Ministry of Culture. The show runs until May 16, 2023, at Kasteliotissa Hall, near Zaha Hadid's Eleftheria Square.
