award · 2026-05-05

Kader Attia, who was born in 1970 in Dugny, has been awarded the prestigious 16th Prix Duchamp, France's foremost accolade for artists, which includes a €35,000 prize. This announcement was made during FIAC week in Paris, held from October 20 to 23. Attia faced competition from Barthélémy Toguo, Yto Barrada, and Ulla von Brandenburg. Recently, he launched La Colonie in the 10th arrondissement, a versatile venue for discussions and workshops, which opened on October 17, marking the anniversary of the 1961 repression of Algerian demonstrators in Paris. The venue's inaugural major event will take place on October 21 featuring Michelangelo Pistoletto. This year, all Prix Duchamp finalists will showcase their work together until January 30, 2017, deviating from the traditional solo exhibition format established by ADIAF and the Centre Pompidou.
