Kabakovs' The Ship of Tolerance Sets Sail in Rome Ahead of Tate Retrospective
The installation The Ship of Tolerance by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, originally created in the late 1970s, is being reintroduced in Rome at Piazza del Ferro di Cavallo di Via di Ripetta, with coordination from the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Roma, and will be on display until June 30. A performance by Coro Voci Bianche is scheduled for May 25 at Teatro dell'Ara Pacis. This installation, which first debuted in Siwa, Egypt, advocates for cultural tolerance and has backing from the Vatican Museums among others. The Kabakovs showcased their work in Rome in 2003 and 2005. Their next stop is Oslo. On May 21, they presented a new sculpture, The Ball, at Kistefos Foundation, and a retrospective is set to open at Tate Modern in October.
