JW Marriott Tokyo Opens in Futuristic Takanawa Gateway District
JW Marriott has opened its second Japanese hotel in Tokyo's new Takanawa Gateway smart city development. The hotel occupies the uppermost floors of a 30-storey high-rise, designed by Yabu Pushelberg with Zen-inspired minimalism. It features moody public spaces, wood panelling, and panoramic views of Tokyo Tower, Mount Fuji, and Tokyo Bay. The hotel opened in October 2025, following the brand's first Japanese property in Nara (2020). The Takanawa Gateway station, opened in 2020, is the hub of a mixed-use redevelopment including the Kengo Kuma-designed Museum of Narratives (opened March 2026). The JW Marriott Tokyo offers a Mindful wing with spa access and bypassed check-in. The brand currently operates 130 hotels across 40+ countries.
