June 2022 Arts Preview: Documenta 15, Dakar Biennale, Guggenheim Retrospective, and Neo Tokyo Architecture

Kassel will host Documenta 15, directed by the Jakarta collective ruangrupa, starting June 18, with a central theme of lumbung (communal rice barn) that has ignited debates regarding BDS movement connections. The 14th Biennale de Dakar, overseen by Dr. El Hadji Malick Ndiaye, is ongoing at Ancien Palais de Justice until June 21, showcasing 59 artists who delve into postcolonial identity. Cecilia Vicuña's retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York is available until September 5. Other exhibitions include AKIRA at Tchoban Foundation Museum in Berlin (June 4–September 4), and Mikhael Subotzky's Epilogue at Goodman Gallery in London (June 8–July 9). Ruth Asawa's sculptures will be on display at Modern Art Oxford until August 21, while Nancy Holt's Inside Outside at Bildmuseet Umeå runs from June 17 to February 12, 2023. Apichatpong Weerasethakul's A Conversation with The Sun is at Bangkok CITYCITY Gallery until July 10, and Juliana Frontin and Ricardo Carioba will exhibit at Espaço Delirium in São Paulo from June 15 to July 9. Peter Fischli and David Weiss's Airports and Cars will be featured at Galerie Eva Presenhuber in Zurich from June 11 to July 30. The UK premiere of Sun & Sea opera is scheduled for June 23–July 10, and Hatis Noit's album Aura will be released on June 24. The film Bergman Island will debut in the UK on June 3.
