Jun Sojung's Atelier Hermès Exhibition Explores Urban Psycho-geography Through Yi Sang's Legacy
Atelier Hermès in Seoul is hosting Jun Sojung's exhibition 'Au Magasin de Nouveautés' from 8 May to 5 July. The showcase features her 25-minute video 'Despair to be reborn' (2020), which delves into the psycho-geography of contemporary cities by linking urban pathways to cognitive routes in Korea, Japan, and France, incorporating archival footage from the 1930s alongside modern visuals. Yi Sang's 1932 poem 'au magasin de nouveautes,' which critiques capitalist spectacle, serves as a focal point for the work. Additionally, the exhibition presents sculptures from Jun's 'Organ' series (2020) and includes an editorial project with contributions from 11 writers reflecting on Yi Sang's influence. Jun is the current recipient of the Hermès Foundation Missulsang, a biennial award for Korean artists.
