Jun Fujisaku's 'Transcenders' Blurs Home and Office Objects

architecture-design · 2026-05-26

Designer Jun Fujisaku presented 'Transcenders' at the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show 2025. The project hybridizes household objects with office furniture, making them indistinguishable. Examples include a vacuum cleaner that becomes a briefcase, a cabinet that transforms into a desk, and an ironing board shaped like an office chair. Fujisaku, with an architectural background, uses the series to challenge gender roles embedded in these objects: the broom associated with women, the briefcase with men. Materially, pine wood from domestic structures reveals industrial aluminum frames, allowing two aesthetics to coexist. The project critiques post-war domestic models that made these objects separate and opposing symbols.
