Jumex Collection's 'Zwischenzonen' at MUMOK Vienna

exhibition · 2026-04-23

From October 16, 2009, to March 7, 2010, the MUMOK in Vienna showcased 'Zwischenzonen' (In-between Zones), an exhibition curated by Victor Zamudio-Taylor featuring works from the Jumex Collection, established by Eugenio López Alonso. The display included pieces from 19 artists, such as Gabriel Orozco's photographic series and Jeff Wall's lightbox titled 'Overpass' (2001). Instead of highlighting clear distinctions, the thematic divisions aimed to soften contrasts. Néstor García Canclini's concept of cultural in-between zones as sites of potential resistance was only subtly represented. Additionally, Miguel Calderón's installation 'Los Pasos del enemigo' (2006) and images from 'Historia Artificial' (1995) were significant highlights. Another segment of the Jumex Collection was exhibited at the Bass Museum in Miami until March 14.
