Jumana Emil Abboud's Water Divining Workshops Connect Palestinian Folklore with Welsh Landscapes for Artes Mundi 11
Jumana Emil Abboud is set to showcase her work in Artes Mundi 11, the premier biennial contemporary art award in the UK, from 24 October 2025 to 1 March 2026 throughout Wales. At Mostyn and the National Museum Cardiff, she delves into Palestinian stories through themes of folklore and waterlore. Abboud's initiatives, including drawing, performance, and water divining workshops, emphasize continuity and care. Her Water Diviners workshop links local wells to Palestinian locations, facilitating a dialogue of memories. She invites audiences to participate as co-creators in cultural experiences. Abboud's previous exhibitions include Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (2024), Cample Line (2023), and Jameel Arts Centre (2023). Artes Mundi 11 features six global artists addressing themes of displacement and the repercussions of political strife.
