July 2024's Global Art Calendar: Photography Festivals, Mono-ha Retrospectives, and Digital Utopias
The 2024 edition of Les Rencontres d’Arles is scheduled from 1 July to 29 September, showcasing 31 exhibitions centered on the theme 'Beneath the Surface'. Among these is 'I'm So Happy You Are Here', which highlights the work of 26 Japanese women photographers, including Okanoue Toshiko and Sugiura Kunié. In Niigata Prefecture, Japan, the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale will commence on 13 July, featuring over 275 artists such as MAD Architects and Antony Gormley. London’s Camden Art Centre will host Lonnie Holley's 'All Rendered Truth' starting 5 July. Nairobi will present 'Hakuna Utopia?' from 20 July, featuring seven artists. Jeremy Couillard's 'List Projects 30' will debut at MIT on 18 July, while Katsuro Yoshida's retrospective opens on 13 July at the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama. 'Folk in Order' will launch in Beijing on 20 July.
