Julius Baer Prize Winners Announced; Rafael Moneo Honored at Venice Biennale; Meg Onli Receives Racial Justice Award
The first-ever Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize has announced its winners, highlighting young digital artists from Southeast Asia between the ages of 18 and 40. Shwe Wutt Hmon from Myanmar took the top spot in the still image category, followed by Singapore's Robert Zhao and Indonesia's Fajar Riyanto. In the moving image category, Mark Chua and Lam Li-Shuen, both from Singapore, won first prize, with Cambodia's Khiev Kanel and Indonesia's Arief Budiman coming in second and third. The jury featured Barbara Staubli, Dr. Wiyu Wahono, Dr. Cheryl Loh, Audrey Yeo, and Inti Guerrero. A virtual exhibition will run until June 30. Meanwhile, Rafael Moneo will be honored with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Architecture Biennale on May 22, and Meg Onli has received the inaugural Figure Skating Prize, a $75,000 award recognizing Black artists focused on racial justice.
