Julien Prévieux Awarded 2014 Marcel Duchamp Prize
Julien Prévieux, a Paris-based artist, has received the 2014 Prix Marcel Duchamp. His practice critically examines economic and technological systems through works like The Totality of True Propositions (Before) from 2009, a bookcase filled with obsolete subject matter, and What Shall We Do Next?, a 2007-2011 animation depicting hand gestures based on unrealized American patents for future devices. The prize includes €35,000 and an additional €30,000 for new work production, with the resulting piece scheduled for exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in 2015. Other finalists for the award were Théo Mercier, Florian et Michaël Quistrebert, and Evariste Richer. Meanwhile, the 2013 winner Latifa Echakhch's exhibition, featured in ArtReview's October issue, continues at the Centre Pompidou until January 26, 2014.
