Julia Stoschek Collection goes online with 68 time-based artworks
The Julia Stoschek Collection, renowned for its extensive array of time-based media art, has introduced a digital platform that allows free online access to its entire archive. Founded in 2003 by German heiress Julia Stoschek (born 1975), this collection features over 860 pieces from 282 artists, mainly from Europe and America, dating from the 1960s to the present. Currently, 68 film and video works by 25 artists are available, with plans for ongoing updates until the entire collection is accessible. Stoschek remarked that only 15% of the collection can be exhibited at its two locations in Düsseldorf and Berlin, calling the digital showcase "an old dream come true." Featured artists include John Bock, Monica Bonvicini, and Wolfgang Tillmans, among others. Each piece is paired with explanatory text, and Stoschek will highlight one work weekly in "Julia's Most Wanted." The collection encompasses a diverse range of audiovisual experimentation, from 1970s queer cinema by Barbara Hemmer to digital animations by Julia Stoschek, reflecting her appreciation for the inclusive nature of film and video.
