institutional · 2026-04-20

Julia Peyton-Jones, who led the Serpentine Galleries for 25 years, will assume a senior global director position at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac starting September 2017. Her responsibilities will include creative development and working with the gallery's international artists and estates across its four locations. Thaddaeus Ropac described Peyton-Jones as one of the art world's most respected figures with unparalleled experience. She previously served as director of the Serpentine Gallery from 1991, significantly enhancing its public and fundraising profile. During her tenure, she collaborated with co-director Hans Ulrich Obrist from 2006 and oversaw the expansion to include the Serpentine Sackler building. Peyton-Jones departed the Serpentine in October 2015. The gallery recently established a London branch earlier this year. Her new role will involve ambassadorial and curatorial duties alongside Thaddaeus Ropac and his team.
