Julee Cruise, Voice of Twin Peaks, Dies at 65
Singer Julee Cruise, best known for her ethereal vocals on the Twin Peaks theme song "Falling," died by suicide on June 9, 2022, at age 65. She had been suffering from depression and lupus. Cruise was born in Creston, Iowa, on December 1, 1956, and later moved to New York, where she met composer Angelo Badalamenti at a theater workshop. Badalamenti commissioned her to sing "Mysteries of Love" for David Lynch's 1986 film Blue Velvet. This led to a long collaboration with Lynch and Badalamenti, including the 1990 avant-garde musical Industrial Symphony No. 1 and the Twin Peaks series. Cruise also performed in the 2004 Keith Haring musical The Radiant Baby and was a member of The B-52's. She released four solo albums. She is survived by her husband, author and editor Edward Grinnan.
