Judy Chicago's Feminist Art Retrospective at CAPC Bordeaux Examines Five-Decade Career

exhibition · 2026-04-22

From March 10 to September 4, 2016, the CAPC/Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux showcases 'Why Not Judy Chicago?' This exhibition, curated by Xabier Arakistain in collaboration with Azkuna Zentroa, traces Judy Chicago's artistic journey from her 1960s studies through to her early 2000s Resolutions series. It emphasizes her contributions to feminist iconography and educational methods. Early pieces, such as Mother Superette (1963), encountered backlash, leading her to create a subversive artistic language. Pasadena Life Savers Yellow Series #2 (1969-70) employed color to subvert traditional views of female anatomy. The display features documentation from the Feminist Art Program and rare test plates from The Dinner Party (1974-79). Located in the Entrepôt Lainé, the exhibition highlights Chicago's commitment to gender equality at 77.
