Judi Harvest's Glass and Ecology Exhibition at Venice Glass Week
Judi Harvest's exhibition 'Fango Fuoco Fiori' opened during the seventh edition of The Venice Glass Week at Galleria Beatrice Burati Anderson in Venice. The show, on view until November 26, 2023, highlights the ancient tradition of glassmaking, which Harvest has practiced since 1988 at the furnace of Murano master Giorgio Giuman in Sacca Serenella. For 35 years, the New York-based artist has divided her time between New York and the Venetian lagoon, addressing the fragility of the ecosystem. Harvest is also a beekeeper; her 'Giardino del Miele' (Honey Garden), established in 2013, spans over 250 square meters at the Giuman furnace. Plants like pomegranate, lavender, jasmine, roses, sage, rosemary, and wisteria inspire her works. The exhibition features two monumental canvases: 'Night' depicts bats, essential for insect population control and endangered, while 'Day' focuses on bees, crucial for pollination and also at risk. Across the gallery's two venues, bat sculptures in various glass techniques and a series of delicate blown-glass beehive works are displayed. A red neon installation 'Fango, Fuoco, Fiori' dominates the brick exhibition space. The show is a tribute to the ecosystem, the silent industriousness of bees, and the ancient craftsmanship of glass artisans.
