Judd Foundation unveils North Apartment in Marfa as part of ongoing restoration plan

The Judd Foundation has completed the North Apartment in Marfa, Texas, marking a new phase in its Marfa Restoration Plan. Located on the second floor of the Glascock Building, this 1,078-square-foot unit will provide overnight accommodations for scholars and artists visiting the foundation's sites. Rainer Judd, president of the foundation, emphasized that the apartment offers a fresh perspective on Donald Judd's work by differentiating between his original installations and new spaces created by the foundation. The project involved collaboration with Schaum Architects, GK Engineers, Higgins Quasebarth & Partners, Method Building Company, and RC Concepts. Interior furnishings include pieces by Alvar Aalto for Artek and Donald Judd Furniture, with materials like Douglas fir used for cabinetry. The restoration follows the reopening of Judd's Architecture Office in September and precedes upcoming work on the Print Building and Architecture Studio. The Glascock Building, purchased by Judd in 1990, now houses both original installations and contemporary interventions, balancing historic preservation with functional needs for staff and visitors.
