JR Wraps Historic Palazzo Ca' da Mosto in Venice with Participatory Installation

At the 61st Venice Biennale, street artist JR has converted Palazzo Ca' da Mosto into a collaborative artwork known as 'Il Gesto,' which reinterprets Paolo Veronese's 1563 work 'The Wedding at Cana.' This installation features 176 participants from Refettorio Paris, emphasizing social change through surplus food. The grand salon inside presents an immersive experience with reflective surfaces and portraits of the participants, weaving a collective narrative. A digital platform is available to delve into the biographies of those involved. Additionally, a large tapestry by Giovanni Bonotto utilizes recycled materials. From May 4 to 10, 2026, the facade will be adorned with faces. The initiative includes chef-led events and public engagement, with materials intended for reuse or donation after the exhibition.
