JR Brings Inside Out Project to Naples for Sky Arte Festival
From May 5 to 7, Naples hosts the first Sky Arte Festival. Among the guests is French artist JR, known for his public art installations and winner of the 2011 TED Prize for the Inside Out Project at Somerset House in London. The project is a global participatory platform based on creating portraits. Over 260,000 people from 129 countries have participated since 2011, with their faces printed as posters and displayed in public spaces. For the Naples edition, in collaboration with ArtsFor_, JR invites thousands of locals to contribute their portraits to support a cultural renaissance. With help from associations, schools, sports teams, art institutes, and citizens, JR is collecting portraits that will be printed as posters. On May 6, the project staff and participants will paste the posters along Naples' waterfront, creating a large public art installation.
