JR Brings Inside Out Project Back to Milan in January
French street artist JR will return to Milan in January 2023 with his Inside Out Project, as announced by Milan's culture councilor Tommaso Sacchi. The participatory art platform, launched by JR during his first TED Talk in 2011, invites communities to make public statements through large-scale black-and-white portraits pasted on polka-dot backgrounds. Over the past decade, nearly half a million people across 148 countries have participated in more than 2,000 actions addressing diversity, community, feminism, racism, climate change, education, rights, and art. In 2022 alone, over 26,000 people joined group actions and photobooths in 29 countries, with two-thirds of actions focusing on education—the highest percentage ever recorded. JR previously worked in Milan five years ago, portraying workers at the BASE construction site. The location for the new Milanese edition has not yet been revealed.
