JR Brings His 'Wounds' to Rome in First Solo Show at Galleria Continua

exhibition · 2026-04-27

JR, the French artist known for large-scale photographic interventions, opens his first solo exhibition in Rome at Galleria Continua, located in the Hotel The St. Regis. Titled 'Ferita' (Wound), the show brings together for the first time his iconic anamorphic 'Breccia' series, which became viral symbols of museum inaccessibility during the pandemic. These works depict gaping fissures in the facades of historic buildings, revealing hidden interiors. The exhibition also features a new site-specific piece created for the gallery space. JR's 'Breccia' installations have been staged at locations including the Louvre, the Pyramids of Giza, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, and Palazzo Farnese in Rome. The artist emphasizes that his projects are independently funded through the sale of his works, with no sponsorships. In an interview, JR discussed his ongoing relationship with Rome, his upcoming projects including a large mural in October, a trip to the Amazon in November, and a mural for 'The Chronical' in December. The exhibition runs at Galleria Continua in Rome.
