Jozef Mrva Jr. Fuses Painting and Installation in 'Challenger Escape Plan' at Kostka Gallery
Jozef Mrva Jr. presents 'Challenger Escape Plan' at Kostka Gallery in Prague, running from January 29 to April 19, 2026. The exhibition combines new and earlier paintings within a spatial installation developed with architect Ondřej Doskočil. The title references both the mathcore band The Dillinger Escape Plan and the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster of January 28, 1986, exactly forty years prior. Mrva Jr.'s collage-based method begins in graphic software, layering technical imagery—diagrams, blueprints, vector models—with bitmap photographic material drawn from internet culture, including obsolete memes, pop references, and Pinterest stock imagery. The installation features three suspended structures shaped like flowcharts, from which paintings hang, serving as metaphors for information sorting. Mrva Jr. (b. 1988) is a Prague-based artist, curator, and educator, a doctoral graduate of FaVU BUT in Brno. His work has been shown at venues including A Promise of Kneropy, Kvalitář, AMU Gallery, Galerie Kurzor, Brno House of Arts, Boccanera Gallery, and Biennale Warszawa. The exhibition is curated by Jan Gajdúšek, with photography by Jan Kolský.
