artist · 2026-04-26

On September 6, 2024, Joseph Marioni, a distinguished American abstract artist and a key figure in the Radical Painting movement, passed away in New York. Born in Cincinnati in 1943, his artistic prowess was acknowledged by Brice Marden. Marioni collaborated with Robert Ryman and Marden before joining forces with Marcia Hafif and others to establish Radical Painting. The inaugural exhibition, 'Radical Painting,' took place in 1984 at the Williams College Museum of Art, emphasizing color and structure.
