Joseph La Piana's 'Frequency' at Orto Botanico Corsini, Porto Ercole

exhibition · 2026-04-26

At the Orto Botanico Corsini in Porto Ercole, Tuscany, artist Joseph La Piana (born 1966, Brooklyn) presents 'Frequency', a site-specific exhibition opening June 8. The garden, established in 1868 by General Vincenzo Ricasoli, houses over 1,500 rare plant species. La Piana's six sculptures use yellow rubber strips to wrap monumental tree trunks, stretching them toward the sea. Inside 16th-century Forte Stella, thirteen paintings explore creation and deconstruction. Alessandro Corsini, president of the botanical garden, describes the show as an ambitious project launching a series of contemporary art programs. The garden, originally called 'Parco di Acclimatazione della Casa Bianca', was one of Italy's first significant botanical gardens from the late 19th century.
