Joseph Coventry: Neo-Expressionist Works in Mixed Media

Joseph Coventry, a mixed media artist born in Tacoma, Washington in 1957 and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, presents a collection of surreal, neo-expressionist paintings. After retiring from a 40-year nursing career, he now focuses full-time on his art. His practice combines figurative abstraction with collage, using oils, acrylic, spray paint, ink, markers, and collage on canvas, paper, or wood. Influences include Phillip Guston, Manabu Mabe, other Japanese abstract artists, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and the lyrics of Tom Waits. Coventry has lived across the U.S., eventually settling in Santa Fe and later near Albuquerque, New Mexico. His art has served as a childhood sanctuary, a refuge from work stress, and catharsis after serious illness.
