Josep Font Revives Delpozo with Organic Architecture and Couture Craft

Spanish designer Josep Font has revitalized Delpozo, the Madrid-based couture house founded in 1974 by Jesús del Pozo. After the founder's death, Grupo Perfumes y Diseño acquired the brand in 2011. Delpozo debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2012 and has since moved to London. Font's creative direction maintains the house's rigorous couture spirit while evolving it into a lighter, dynamic demi-couture. He describes his approach as an 'organic architecture' focusing on form, volume, and meticulous details, using natural fabrics like organza, silk tulle, and wool crêpe alongside modern materials like PVC. Production remains entirely in Spain, in small ateliers, preserving artisanal craftsmanship. Font's work is seen as a spiritual heir to Cristóbal Balenciaga's minimalism, blending rational beauty with an atemporal eclecticism. The Resort 2019 collection was inspired by the cactus forms of Korean painter Kwang-ho Lee, contrasting perfect flowers with arid spiny leaves. Font's designs evoke the Arts and Crafts movement's dignity and avant-garde craftsmanship, redefining contemporary fashion with poetic, non-didactic floral applications and experimental embroidery.
