Josefine Schulz's 'Makeover' at Kunstraum Ortloff Explores Revision as Method

Josefine Schulz's solo exhibition, titled 'Makeover (fall in love again and again)', is currently showcased at Kunstraum Ortloff in Leipzig until May 9, 2026. This exhibition explores the makeover concept—a recurring cultural theme that suggests transformation—through artworks that challenge traditional before-and-after narratives. The pieces feature mirrors that reflect other faces rather than the viewer's own, and layers of overpainting reveal earlier versions underneath. A wall adorned with a blue square grid reimagines the space as a blend of a home bathroom and a film set. One prominent painting illustrates women at a public restroom counter, capturing a moment of shared intimacy. Other works include a small canvas with a pink compact mirror revealing two adjacent faces, and a third piece framed in pink-magenta that showcases handwriting and a faint architectural sketch, with some text obscured. The exhibition also nods to early 2000s films like 'Clueless' (which will be screened at the closing event) and features contemporary items such as flip phones, iPhones, and a Stanley Cup.
