Josèfa Ntjam's Venice Biennale installation swell of spæc(i)es explored in ArtReview talk

On April 17, Wednesday, artist Josèfa Ntjam engaged in a conversation with Oliver Basciano, the editor-at-large of ArtReview, at Palazzina Canonica CNR ISMAR in Venice, Italy. The gathering commenced with welcome drinks from 17:00 to 17:30, followed by a recorded dialogue lasting 45 minutes. This event coincided with Ntjam’s exhibition, swell of spæc(i)es, which serves as a collateral event for the Venice Biennale, running from April 20 to November 24, 2024, at Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia. Commissioned by LAS Art Foundation, the installation features a pavilion with a cyclical film, sonic sculptures, and an immersive soundscape, addressing themes of origins, identity, and racial constructs, while intertwining Dogon cosmogony with modern discoveries and African mythology. Attendance required an RSVP but was free.
