Jorn and Kirkeby watercolors at Nordic Watercolour Museum

The Nordic Watercolour Museum in Skärhamn, Sweden, presents a summer exhibition pairing Asger Jorn (1914–1973) and Per Kirkeby (1938–2018), two of Denmark's most significant postwar artists. On view through September 6, 2026, the show brings together watercolors and drawings that highlight the experimental core of their practices. Despite generational and art-historical differences, both artists shared a fascination with painting's expressive power and the image's inner life. The exhibition positions watercolor and drawing not as secondary to painting but as independent fields of discovery where gesture, rhythm, structure, and movement emerge with immediacy.
