Jorit's 120 sqm Mandela Mural Is Florence's Largest
A 120-square-meter mural of Nelson Mandela, the largest in Florence, was unveiled on December 5, 2018, on the facade of a public housing building called Condominio dei Diritti in Piazza Leopoldo. The work was created by Jorit (Jorit Agoch), a street artist born in Naples in 1990 to an Italian father and Dutch mother, known for hyper-realistic portraits of faces with distinctive red tribal marks on the cheeks. Jorit has previously portrayed figures such as Che Guevara, Vittorio Sgarbi, Fedez, and Ilaria Cucchi. The mural was presented during an event marking the fifth anniversary of Mandela's death. Jorit stated that Mandela fought against the exploitation of man by man, a struggle that transcends race and remains relevant today.
