Jorit on Street Art, George Floyd Mural, and Future Plans
Born in 1990, Neapolitan street artist Jorit has unveiled his newest mural, which prominently features George Floyd surrounded by Lenin, Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and Angela Davis. This artwork was created on a rooftop in Barra, Naples, during the quarantine period. Renowned for his hyperrealistic murals that convey social messages, Jorit first gained attention in 2005, with his exhibitions commencing in 2008 at MACRO in Rome and PAN in Naples. He differentiates his creations from news-related art by emphasizing historical figures as universal symbols. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, he persisted in painting, primarily using MTN 9 spray cans. In 2019, he completed the tallest mural in the world in Moscow and intends to invite leading street artists to Naples, viewing criticism as a beneficial element of art.
