Joris Lacoste's Hypnosis Art: Suggestion as Theater
Joris Lacoste, a French artist, employs hypnosis to craft 'mental works' that transform audience members into participants. During the Crossing The Line festival in New York in October 2012, he hypnotized four artists, including Tony Conrad and Jonathan Caouette, resulting in 'Quatre Rêves Préparés'. His journey began in 2004 when he encountered texts on therapeutic hypnosis. After training with Thierry Melchior, he publicly showcased his work in 2009 with 'Au musée du sommeil' for Radio France. In 2010, he hypnotized a spectator each day at Printemps de Septembre in Toulouse. His 2011 project, 'Le Vrai spectacle' for Festival d'Automne, featured collective experiences. Lacoste co-directed Les Laboratoires d'Aubervilliers (2007–2009) and contributed to 'Encyclopédie de la Parole', with his works appearing in the 2013 exhibitions 'Sous influence' and 'Émoi et Moi'.
