Jorge R. Pombo's 'Giudizio Universale' at Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Jorge R. Pombo's 'Giudizio Universale' is on view until September 18, 2025, at the Cattedrale space of Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan. The Catalan artist (born 1973 in Barcelona) presents a 180-square-meter canvas, part of a larger project to reconstruct the Sistine Chapel at 1:1 scale over five years. Six lateral wall variations depict a dialogue among Moses, Christ, and contemporary humanity. Curated by Vera Agosti and Matteo Pacini, the exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Milan with EBLand Srl and Movimento Arte Etica. Pombo, self-taught, merges Renaissance and Action Painting, creating a 'metapainting' that reflects on painting itself. He involved people in social exclusion, selected with Caritas, in the studio, making the artwork a collective, ethical act. Agosti notes the tension between classical and contemporary language; Pacini highlights the reflection on work in society, with Milan as an ideal stage.
