Jorge Amat's Nocturnal Erotic Photographs Published in New Book
Filmmaker Jorge Amat, known for documentaries on the Liberation of Paris and the Spanish Civil War, as well as the feature film À la recherche de Kafka, has released his first photography book, Obsessions nocturnes, published by Éditions E.dite. The book, the result of three years of work, contains nearly a hundred black-and-white studio photographs exploring eroticism and fetishism, featuring women bound or encased in plastic, often with hidden faces behind masks or tape. Amat constructs surreal, fetishistic sets with crosses and strange machines he built himself. The book includes a text by writer and photographer Jacques Henric, known for his photos of Catherine M., which is more explicit than the images and functions as an independent literary creation. Henric's text, described as blasphemous and pornographic, engages with Amat's fantasies. The book also includes a DVD featuring a filmed session of a bride's striptease and Henric reading his text. Amat's style blends classical composition reminiscent of El Greco and surrealist influences from Dalí and De Chirico, with digital post-processing to create motion effects and chimeras. The photographs were mostly shot on film and then digitally manipulated. Amat cites dreams as the source of his images, emphasizing fantasy over its realization. The book was published in 2006.
