Jörg Reissner's PARLAMENT at JesuitenFoyer: Nothing on a Pedestal

exhibition · 2026-04-24

At JesuitenFoyer in Vienna, Jörg Reissner's exhibition PARLAMENT (April 2026) presents floor-based sculptures made from scrap MDF, plywood, and canvas. Nothing is hung or elevated; all objects are placed, leaned, laid, or stacked directly on the floor. The work draws on Bruno Latour's concept of a parliament of things, giving non-human objects a voice in democratic decision-making. The shapes reference Central European paper-cut traditions (Scherenschnitte), architectural ornament, flames, skulls, mushrooms, and plant leaves, in black, white, and reseda green. The material—offcuts and remainders from earlier work—carries the logic of surplus. The horizontal organization and refusal of pedestals carry political weight, creating a fragile, provisional assembly that feels like a civilization in formation or collapse.
