Jonathas de Andrade's 'With the Heart Coming Out of the Mouth' Turns Brazil's Biennale Pavilion into Anatomy Fair

At the 59th Venice Biennale, Jonathas de Andrade showcases his project 'With the heart coming out of the mouth', transforming the national pavilion in the Giardini into what he refers to as an anatomy fair. His exhibition includes sculptures, photographs, and a video that delve into bodily metaphors derived from popular sayings, aiming to highlight the sensorial and absurd elements of modern subjectivity. De Andrade perceives the biennale as a poetic gauge of global geopolitics, reflecting how art addresses pressing issues. He recognizes the difficulty of representing Brazil amid intricate historical contexts, viewing his work as a dialogue with collective cultural narratives. Additionally, he is featured in the Penumbra exhibition at Complesso dell'Ospedaletto, presenting a new film commissioned by Fondazione In Between Art Film. The Venice Biennale is scheduled from 23 April to 27 November 2022.
