John Torres and Shireen Seno Win 2025 Moving Image Commission

award · 2026-04-24

Filipino creatives John Torres and Shireen Seno have received the Moving Image Commission from the Han Nefkens Foundation, Mori Art Museum, M+, and Singapore Art Museum for 2025. Launched in 2023, this grant aims to support video artists in Southeast Asia, providing them with USD $100,000 to create a video artwork for installation at each of the four institutions. Seno, a filmmaker and artist focused on memory and history, was a finalist for the Southeast Asian Video Art Production Grant last year. Torres, a musician and writer, produces moving-image works that capture narratives amidst state repression in the Philippines. The award enables the first-time collaborators, who are also parents of two, to reflect on their dual roles. The jury, led by Han Nefkens, included museum directors Kataoka Mami, Suhanya Raffel, and Eugene Tan. Other finalists were Che-Yu Hsu, Riar Rizaldi, and Yashaswini Raghunandan.
