John Scofield's Trio Pays Tribute to Music Legends on New ECM Album
Guitarist John Scofield released 'Uncle's John Band' on ECM in October 2023, a tribute to the Grateful Dead and other music icons. The album features his trio with Vicente Archer on bass and Bill Stewart on drums. It opens with a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Mr. Tambourine Man' and includes tracks dedicated to Neil Young, Bud Powell, Leonard Bernstein, and the Grateful Dead. 'Nothing Is Forever' is a piece for his son Evan, who died in 2013. The album was recorded in August 2022 at Clubhouse Studio in Rhinebeck, New York. Scofield toured Italy with the trio in late 2023, performing in Milan, Rome, Forlì, and Spoleto, where he also honored composer Carla Bley.
