John Pomp Debuts First Wood Collection 'Unearthed' at Thomas Lavin in Los Angeles

Philadelphia-based designer John Pomp, known for his sculptural glass and metal furniture and lighting, has introduced his first wood collection, titled Unearthed, at Thomas Lavin's gallery in Los Angeles. The collection, which debuts this week, includes dining chairs, lounge chairs, benches, and dining, cocktail, and side tables. It features three wood species and seven unique finishes, with seating options available in new boucle upholstery in 60 shades. Pomp describes the collection as completing his elemental language, which previously explored water, fire, and air through glass, by adding earth. The pieces are characterized by more structured geometries compared to his earlier rounded forms, reflecting the challenges and opportunities of working with a rigid material. Pomp's work has been favored by designers such as Geoffrey De Sousa, Nicole Hollis, Sasha Bikoff, and Jeff Lincoln, and he was named to Galerie's Creative Minds list. The collection was conceived over a year and is produced in his Philadelphia warehouse, which houses furnaces, kilns, and CNC machines. Pomp emphasizes that Unearthed is an extension of his practice, with glass-topped tables literally combining glass and wood, symbolizing the convergence of organic materials.
