John Miller Discusses Mike Kelley's Educational Complex at NYPL
On January 27, 2016, at 6:00 PM, the New York Public Library hosted a public conversation featuring John Miller, Johanna Fateman, Nicolás Guagnini, Piper Marshall, and Howard Singerman. Miller discussed Mike Kelley's 1995 artwork Educational Complex, an architectural model of every school Kelley attended. The talk explored the artwork's themes: architectural representation, false memory syndrome, and liberal democratic education. Miller, a professor at Barnard College and Kelley's friend from 1978 until Kelley's death in 2012, authored a book on the work for Afterall's One Work series, distributed by MIT Press. Copies were available for sale and signing at the free event, held in the Celeste Auditorium at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
