John Miller and Kim Colin Discuss Mike Kelley's Educational Complex at ICA London

On Friday, 4 September 2015, from 13:00 to 14:00, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London hosted a lunchtime event marking the launch of Afterall Books' publication 'Mike Kelley: Educational Complex' by John Miller. As part of the 'Culture Now' series, artist and critic John Miller, a professor at Barnard College, engaged in conversation with designer Kim Colin about Kelley's 1995 artwork 'Educational Complex', an architectural model representing every school Kelley attended. The book, part of Afterall's One Work series distributed by The MIT Press, explores the artwork through multiple lenses: architectural models of Kelley's schools and childhood home, popular fantasies linked to false memory syndrome, and the liberal democratic foundations of education. Colin, a trained architect, had headed the production of the original artwork. Miller, who was Kelley's friend and colleague from 1978 until Kelley's death in 2012, also had an exhibition titled 'Counterpublics' on view at Campoli Presti, London, from 4 September to 5 October 2015.
