John Cage's 4′ 33″ iPhone app enables global ambient sound recordings

A new iPhone application dedicated to John Cage's 4′ 33″ allows users to record and share performances of the iconic silent composition worldwide. The app, officially released by the John Cage Trust and publisher C.F. Peters, automatically geotags each recording's location. It also features ambient sounds captured in Cage's final New York apartment. This digital tool transforms the conceptual piece into a participatory global experiment, enabling the collection of environmental sounds from diverse settings. Recordings of the work's four minutes and thirty-three seconds can now be uploaded and distributed through the platform. The application represents a technological extension of Cage's interest in chance operations and everyday auditory experiences.
