Johanna Hedva's first New York institutional exhibition at CARA in 2026

CARA will host Johanna Hedva's first institutional exhibition in New York in fall 2026. Titled 'Gravity, My / Favorite Enemy', the show is the most ambitious presentation of Hedva's visual work to date, featuring pieces commissioned by CARA. Hedva's practice spans sculpture, installation, video, writing, and sound, focusing on deviant forms of knowledge. The exhibition includes time-based installations, video, newly produced sculptural wall paintings, and a large-scale kinetic sculpture. Hedva describes working with gravity, deterioration, and materiality that decays over time, aiming to make the abyss feel visceral and intimate. Time is a primary material, exemplified by a mouthblown glass vessel that slowly drains black goo and a new 20-foot robotic sculpture.
