Johan Grimonprez's Double Take at Centre d'art du Plateau

exhibition · 2026-04-23

At the Centre d'art du Plateau in Paris, Johan Grimonprez's exhibition runs from 12 September to 13 October 2007, showcasing the evolving video piece Double Take, which centers on Ron Burrage, a doppelgänger of Hitchcock. Co-written with Tom McCarthy, the script draws inspiration from Borges's The Other and features ten segments, including Role Reversal and Cinema vs. Television, where the artist explores iconic imagery. This work critiques both cinema and television, reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955). Viewers can watch Double Take on a small monitor surrounded by cushions. Additionally, the book Looking for Alfred (2007) shares its name with a 2004 film about Hitchcock impersonators. Another piece, The Sky Might Be Green and We Are Colorblind (2006), serves as a 'YouTube-o-thèque' of online videos. Concurrently, a drawing exhibition was held at Galerie Kamel Mennour from 18 October to 30 November 2007.
